Strängnäs is a small quiet town on the shores of Lake Mälaren. The great cathedral from the 1100s is a central point in the old part of the city. Here you can stroll in the lovely small alleys in a historic setting. On June 6, 1523 was proclaimed King Gustav Vasa king of the church.

Old traditions

Strängnäs has a long history as skolstad that includes Sweden's second oldest high school (1626), initiated by Bishop Laurentius Paulinus Gothus. He also founded Sweden's first printing press in Roggeborgen a stone's throw from here.

Today there are 33,011 people living in the municipality and 17,227 of them live in Strängnäs. The city has been modernized and now has become an industrial center with a variety of industries such as electronics, computer, food, chemistry and biotechnology.

Close to everything

1996 we got new railway through the city, which opened up for easy commuting to include Stockholm (45min) and Eskilstuna (14 min.)
